What is career coaching

Career coaching is a form of support in which a coach helps you decide what you're looking for and how to go after it. At CompassHub, career coaching focuses on your job search: your job offers and your applications. To get started, you fill in the form and join the waiting list, and creating your profile is free.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF), the international association of coaches, describes professional coaching as a partnership between a coach and their client so that the client makes the most of their personal and professional potential, according to the definition published by ICF España, updated on 9 March 2026. Put simply: the coach doesn't decide for you, they help you decide.

What career coaching at CompassHub includes

Career coaching at CompassHub is designed to strengthen your applications, not to discuss your career in the abstract. The coach starts from what you've told us in the form and works on the job offers that interest you and the applications you already have under way.

What CompassHub offers is support in two parts:

  • Conversations with your coach. They help you sort out what you want, which offers deserve your time and how to present your experience for each one.
  • Follow-up between conversations. Your coach can leave you notes on a specific offer in your applications board, so the advice sits where you'll use it.

What to expect: someone who knows recruitment processes from the inside looks at what you're doing and tells you what they'd change. Nobody can promise you a job, and we don't either.

Independent career coach or coaching linked to your applications

An independent career coach works with whatever you tell them in each session. CompassHub's coaching is linked to your job offers and your applications kanban, a board with a column for each stage (sent, being read, interview, offer). The difference is what the coach can see of your search without you having to explain it all again.

Aspect Independent career coach Coaching at CompassHub
Starting point What you tell them in the first session Your roles, locations, work format and salary from the form
What they see of your search What you show them Your job offers and your applications board
Where the advice ends up In your own notes On the specific offer in your board
Specialism Depends on the coach Headhunting and recruitment processes
How you start You get in touch and pay for sessions You fill in the form and join the waiting list

An independent coach can be a good choice if you want to work on things that go beyond finding a job. If what you want is for your applications to get further, it makes sense for whoever advises you to see them. If you are comparing coaches, we explain how to choose one in find a coach in Spain.

How to get started with a career coach at CompassHub

To get started with a career coach at CompassHub, there's nothing to book. You fill in the sign-up form, join the waiting list and a coach gets in touch when they can. There's no calendar and no fixed response time.

There are three steps:

  1. You fill in the form. It asks which roles you're after, where, in what format (on-site, hybrid or remote) and the salary from which you'll consider offers.
  2. You join the waiting list. Creating your profile is free.
  3. A coach gets in touch. When they have time, with everything you've already told us in front of them.

If you'd like a coach to look at your applications, fill in the form: you'll join the waiting list and a coach will get in touch when they can.

Frequently asked questions about career coaching

How much does career coaching at CompassHub cost?

Creating your profile at CompassHub is free, and that's the only thing we can pin down today. Access to coaching starts with the waiting list: you fill in the form and a coach gets in touch when they can. We don't publish session prices on this page. The team explains the rest of the access model when they contact you.

Is career coaching the same as mentoring or therapy?

No. According to ICF España, coaching is not psychology, advisory work, mentoring or consultancy. A mentor tells you what they'd do in your place based on their own experience. A career coach helps you decide what you want and prepare how to get it. At CompassHub, the coach also brings what they've seen over years of recruitment processes. If your goal isn't professional, we explain what a personal coach does.

Is there a career coach in Madrid?

CompassHub's coaching is online, so it doesn't depend on the city you live in: it works the same whether you're looking for a career coach in Madrid or anywhere else in Spain. What does matter is where you want to work, and you set that in the form, along with the work format (on-site, hybrid or remote) and the roles you're after. If you live in Barcelona, see career coach in Barcelona.

Is career coaching worth it if I've been working for many years?

Yes, and that's often when it pays off most. With many years of experience, the problem isn't usually what you've done, but how to present it for a specific offer and which offers to rule out. CompassHub's team of coaches has more than 15 years in headhunting and has seen up close how employers choose between candidates with long careers. If you lead a team or want to step up to a leadership role, see executive coaching.

What happens if a recruitment process doesn't work out?

We have seen it many times: when a recruitment process ends without success, contact with the candidate is usually lost. CompassHub was created so that doesn't happen: your profile, your preferences and your applications are still there, and the coaching carries on with the next offer instead of starting from scratch.
